Sustainability

Sustainability is important to the RYS. We have a committee of Members to look into how we could improve our commitment to sustainability issues which meets regularly. We concentrate our attention on three main areas: a sustainable Castle and Pavilion, a sustainable Haven, and sustainable yachting more generally. We are very keen to share good practice with Members for their own yachting activities and more broadly to minimise impact on the health of our seas and oceans.

The committee meets 2-3 times a year and the meeting is supported by attendance from both the Commodore and Vice Commodore. It reports its activity to the appropriate Committees of the Club.

We have now hosted our second very successful Sustainability Symposium which we held at the Castle on 20th January 2024. A summary of the event and a copy of the slides are listed on this website. We will aim to run this symposium biennially.

I would be delighted to hear from any Members who have ideas and experience in this field and who would like to get involved. Please provide any comments to me, any members of the Committee or the RYS office.
