1st June 2015 saw the Bicentenary of the Royal Yacht Squadron; 200 years to the day since the inaugural meeting at the Thatched Tavern.
The Membership celebrated with their own Regatta week in June which was a fantastic spectacle of events both on and off the water. The week encompassed 3 days of intra-club racing, the Fleet Review, Evensong Church Service and the Beat retreat, finished off with the Bicentenary Ball on Saturday 6th June.
This fantastic week was followed by the cruise via St Vaast, Honfleur and onwards up the Seine to Paris where Members visited the Yacht Club de France, dined on board a Bateau Mouche and finally spent a splendid day at the Domain of Chantilly hosted by HH The Aga Khan and his daughter HH Princess Zahra.
The International Regatta which took place from the 25th-31st July was the next event in the celebration programme. This regatta brought some spectacular yachts to the Solent. The invitational regatta brought together many clubs and friends from around the globe, who share their common interests and love of sailing. For more information about who took part and what happened during the week, please visit the event website.
